Teacher hurt as car lands in class

"The car was parked in the direction of the classroom. A sudden screeching noise caught my attention. I was baffled, wondering why the car was going straight towards the classroom at such great speed," he said. "In a split second, after the car hit the first road separator, it flew over the grass patch and hit the elevated sidewalk just outside the classroom, which sent the vehicle airborne before if rammed straight into the classroom. "As soon as the vehicle crashed, I ran to the scene to check if anyone was inside the classroom and saw a female teacher on the floor. She told me that the impact threw her off the chair. Luckily, she only suffered minor injuries from shredded glass pieces and was immediately brought to RIPAS Hospital by her husband," he said in relief. According to him, there were no students at 10.40am when the accident happened because that particular class was used for Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College students who were allowed to go home early at 10.30am. Normally other students would only go back at 10.45am, he added. Mohd Bahrin said the vehicle also hit a parent's car waiting to pick up a child just before hitting the road separator. Furious over the carelessness of the Indonesian driver, the parent took him to the nearest police station. The employer of the driver, a restaurant owner, rushed to the school and apologised to the principal. "Thank God there were no children involved and the teacher only suffered minor injuries. I've brought my other employees to help with cleaning up the debris and contractors are also here to fix the windows and metal grills of the classroom," he said. When the Sengkurong Police Station was contacted, the officer in charge said that according to the Indonesian driver, he wanted to press the brake pedal but instead stepped on the accelerator causing the car to propel straight into the classroom.
